Welcome to my new website!
If you think the bugle is the best instrument then this is the place for you. If you are looking for fun music to play on your bugle, and are frustrated that all you can find on the internet is a handful of Army bugle calls (finding the same ones over and over again), then you are now in the right spot.
Why I built this site
I have been on a quest to find and collect marches and other music that can be played on a bugle for a couple of decades. Now I want to share it with the world. Help me to build a community of buglers bu joining today.
About 30 years ago I was a kid in my local drum and bugle corps. Just over 20 years ago I was a member of the Cadet Field Music Group at West Point. I discovered my love for music that can be played on these nonchromatic horns, especially in the military-style. I was exposed to several bugle marches- multipart pieces that could be played without any valves. I want to share that passion with the world.
Since then, I have been scouring archives, libraries, and the internet to find music for bugles. It can be hard to find. Internet searches can be flooded with basic Army bugle calls. But there is a rich repertoire of music from the past. Bugles and valve-less trumpets were an important part of the military for several centuries and a great number of marches, waltzes, and other tunes were played.
Now it is time for me to give back and share this great music with you. I want to see a community of traditional buglers from all over the world. Let us all work together to share our knowledge and our passion for our instrument. This website is a place to do that.
What is next?
I am currently working on a few book projects.
For several years I have been taking the music I collected (much of it poor scans, or faded pages) and re-typesetting the music to create clean copies in modern notation. I am compiling a book of bugle music. So far, I have several hundred musical tunes, and over 1,700 bugle calls. I would like to create the most complete handbook of bugle music possible. Stuffed with music, bugle calls, historical information, and information about bugling. The current draft is about 650 pages long (a lot of editing left to do).
I am also considering releasing a smaller tune book. A book focused just on a selection of marches and fun tunes to play on bugle. When I look at the tune books currently on the market, almost all of them are just bugle calls. Many of the tune books with marches and entertaining music are out of print.
